Last year, we introduced you to Twist-Lock® Edge receptacles from Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems. The popular new devices promised to improve installation time for electrical projects by more than 80% projects. Featuring screwless termination, Twist-Lock Edge receptacles offered the market’s fastest-terminating receptacle, enabling installers to do more in less time.
Building on the success of the receptacles, Hubbell has now expanded the Twist-Lock Edge series to include plugs and inlets. In this article we’ll explore the capabilities of the expanding family of Twist-Lock Edge products and how it’s revolutionizing the electrical installation process.
The Twist-Lock Edge Installation Process
The Twist-Lock Edge series of products features an innovative spring lock technology that enables fast installations and solid, reliable connections every time. Hubbell’s new 4- and 5-wire cord-mounted plugs and panel-mounted flange inlets expand the applications for this patented technology.
For cord-mounted plugs, users simply need to remove the outer shell, insert the stripped wires into the appropriate ports, and depress the plungers for instant and secure termination. Inlet installation is just as simple. Insert the stripped wire, depress the plungers, and installation is complete! Convenient molded-in leverage points enable quick termination release for easy future changeouts.
The Twist-Lock Edge technology provides a highly secure and fast installation. But it also eliminates the threat of strand relaxation over time, due to thermal cycling, vibration, or dropped and damaged cords.
Twist-Lock Edge Advantages
For decades, electrical installation has meant hours spent wiring each screw, torqueing it down with a screwdriver or torque wrench, and then measuring and ensuring the integrity of every connection. Twist-Lock Edge devices create a fool-proof and long-lasting connection requiring no tools, special skills, or experience. There are four major advantages to this groundbreaking technology:
- Faster Installations: Standard device installations typically take well over a minute per piece. With Twist-Lock Edge, that process can be completed in about 10 seconds. When multiplied across all the devices on a typical installation, that time savings can make a major impact on your bottom line.
- Improved Safety: Because Twist-Lock Edge devices have no exposed live metal on the receptacle, you get a consistent and reliable connection with limited exposure risk.
- Better Durability: Wires stay tight for the long haul. Vibration, temperature variations, and strand relaxation are no longer obstacles because the spring lock technology adapts to conditions.
- Reliability You Can Count On: The Hubbell brand is known, first and foremost, for exceptional products. These devices live up to Hubbell’s promise of quality.
Twist-Lock Edge Applications
Twist-Lock Edge receptacles, plugs and inlets are perfect for use in power distribution systems, for powering motor drives, or for installing equipment on the production floor. OEMs, electricians, and electrical contractors will find these solutions especially reliable in applications subject to vibration or thermal cycling. They’re listed to UL 498, verified to federal specification W-C 596H, and certified to CSA C22.2 No. 42.
